KM69 is a well-known brand in the Philippine surfing scene, with its longboards and mid-length surfboards being particularly popular. The brand sponsors many Philippine surfing competitions annually. All their surfboards are handmade, each one hand-carved, with every detail custom-made to your specifications, making them unique and reflecting the craftsman’s dedication and skill. You can even have your name written on the board!
This time, HKSL is offering a group buy for 9-foot and 7-foot-7.6-foot handmade longboards. You can customize the design, pattern, color, width, and widepoint of each board. I own one myself and surf with it in Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Taitung! I highly recommend it. It’s perfect for Hong Kong’s wave patterns, handling everything from small waves to typhoon waves with ease. It’s super easy to catch waves, and the rocker depth is just right—not too flat—so you won’t get stuck in the nose of the board when riding larger waves. For longboarders aiming for a nose ride, I really like the wide tail design of the square tail board. It’s perfect for nose rides/walking, offering high stability while remaining lightweight and allowing for agile steering. Most importantly, it’s lightweight, making it ideal for surfing trips.

Plus, Hong Kong has limited longboard options. Big brands easily cost over ten thousand dollars, and surfboards from domestic factories might be too heavy and bulky to withstand strong waves. Four or five thousand dollars might be okay for beginners, but it quickly won’t satisfy those who want to surf on a stiff longboard.
To do something well, you need the right tools. A custom-made board makes maneuvers much easier!
The biggest hassle of longboarding is transportation. This time, we’ll save you all the logistical hassle. Order directly and it will be delivered to Changsha, so you can jump right in!
If you’re unsure which board style suits you, no problem! Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced surfer; whether you’ve been thinking about it for a long time; whether you’re just starting out and want to pay a deposit for a nice board, just tell me. I’ll recommend one based on your goals and current surfing level! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy a board that you can afford – a one-off deal!
I recently returned from a trip to Australia and bought a 9-foot handcrafted longboard from a local craftsman in Noosa. I really wanted to bring it back to Hong Kong, but Cathay Pacific only accepts 6.6-foot boards (which would cost an extra HKD 3000/USD 350). After much effort, I finally found a shipping company willing to ship a 9-foot surfboard. Shipping the board to a Hong Kong container and packaging cost a whopping HKD 7500/USD 1500, not including taxes and shipping back to Changsha! So I really want to help anyone wanting to buy a longboard solve their shipping problems.

FAQ:
Q. How to choose between a 9-foot longboard and a mid-length board?
A. A 9-foot board is larger and easier to ride waves. In competitions, only boards 9 feet or longer are defined as longboards. If you want to learn or enjoy nose riding, you absolutely must choose a 9-foot board, because boards smaller than 9 feet (e.g., 8’6″) are no longer suitable for nose riding. The unique design of a 9-foot board provides high stability, allowing surfers to ride and perform various nose riding maneuvers.
If you want a more agile board that is easier to maneuver and turn, choose a mid-length board. This retains the advantages of a longboard in terms of wave chasing while also allowing for easier maneuvers on the wave face.
Q. What is the difference between a handmade board and a factory-made board?
A. Handmade surfboards offer customized performance, exquisite craftsmanship, and highly personalized customization services, meticulously crafted by board makers; while factory-made surfboards are manufactured using CNC machines, providing consistency and lower costs. Handmade surfboards are more suitable for surfers who prioritize a perfect fit, while factory-made surfboards are suitable for surfers who prioritize value for money.
Customization: Tailor-made to your weight, skill level, and Hong Kong wave patterns.
Craftsmanship: Every curve and edge is meticulously tuned to create a unique “soul” or feel.
Performance: Typically higher performance due to its specific design for particular conditions.
Q. At what level should I buy a hardboard?
A. You can buy one at any level. Because it’s custom-made, it can be customized according to your surfing level, short/long-term goals, height, and weight. You don’t have to worry about it being unsuitable or not working for you!
If you’re determined to make surfing a part of your life and don’t want to rent boards all the time, consider buying your own hardboard. Owning your own board is more effective for practice than renting. If you’re only interested for a short time, renting is better.
Q. What are the characteristics of a square-tail longboard?
A. A square-tail longboard is a traditional surfboard design. The wide, square tail optimizes stability, allows for quick wave entry, and easy turning in small to medium waves. Suitable for boarding and nose rides in smaller, softer waves on Lantau Island.
Q. How to choose a wide point for a longboard?
A. Front: Provides stability for nose rides and boarding in both small and large waves, easier to follow the waves.
Middle: Balances nose rides and turning, suitable for beginners and intermediates.
Back: More responsive and quicker turning, easier to increase speed during bottom turns; however, less stable for nose rides in small waves.
