Hong Kong Surfing Lesson
Autumn Surfkid Camp
The Happiest Outdoor Camp in HK
- Our autumn camp is the only camp in Hong Kong that focuses solely on surfing and skill progression, held at Lower Cheung Sha Beach on Lantau, Hong Kong, from late September through October.
- Every kid gets their own surfboard for the water sessions, and coaches split groups by age and surfing experience so a complete beginner and a returning grom both land in the right group.
- Camp days run in 3-day non-overnight blocks from late September through October, with 2-day and 1-day options also on offer.
- Coaches teach basic and advanced skills according to each group’s progress and each kid’s own ability.
- The camp is open to kids aged 5–15, from no experience through to all surf levels.
- It’s an unaccompanied program — parents and helpers are welcome to watch from the beach.
What kids take home (outcome)
- Sharper surfing skills through the autumn season, and a better read of the ocean
- The confidence to push past their comfort zone and grow more independent
- Calm, positive energy from the sea as the season winds down
- Friends and the aloha spirit shared across the camp

Getting there
Two ways to arrive — pick whichever suits your family:
- Central Pier 6 pickup (8:15am–4:45pm): meet an HKSL instructor and travel together by ferry and Lantau bus, both ways. The wider window covers the round trip.
- Meet at the beach (10:00am–3:30pm): go straight to Lower Cheung Sha Beach (Lantau Grocer). These are the camp’s own hours on the sand.
Camps are mainly English-led, with Cantonese- or Mandarin-speaking coaches available on request.
A Typical Camp Day
- Main activity: surfing and progressive skills work, every day
- Other activities: surf safety, body-surfing, body-boarding, beach games, surf-related water games
- Flat-day or bad-weather alternatives: tie-dye workshop, screen printing, slacklining, skimboarding
Camp Schedule (times shift with the surf and the weather):
- 10:00–10:30 — get changed, camp rules, swim and body-surf, ocean knowledge
- 10:30–12:00 — land drill and morning surf session
- 12:00–13:00 — lunch and free time, rehydration and sunscreen
- 13:00–14:45 — beach games and afternoon surf session
- 14:45–15:30 — tidy up and get changed
Our coaches
- Head coaches qualified by the International Surfing Association (ISA) in surfing, SUP, and SUP-surf
- Led by head coach Buddy — the first and only holder of the ISA Supervisor Instructor Award in Hong Kong
- 13 years of surf coaching and over 16 years of outdoor-education experience
- Trained in water rescue and first aid
- A professional team that teaches thousands of adults and kids to surf every year
- Running since 2015, with 170+ kids’ surf camps delivered
- No more than 1 coach to 8 kids in the water — smaller ratios or a rotating 1-on-1 option when wave conditions or the age mix call for it

Had a really good experience for my first time surfing! Tio was an amazing instructor—incredibly thorough, detailed, and encouraging. She paced the lesson perfectly and took the time to break down each of my attempts so I knew exactly how to improve. I made great progress and will definitely be back for more!
